The Vienna New Year's Concert is one of the world's greatest musical events:
The concert will be broadcast live in more than 90 countries and seen by over 50 million viewers. 2015 will conduct this unique concert one of the best and most popular conductors in the world: Zubin Mehta. Born in Bombay, Mehta studied in Vienna and was from 1962-78 Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1977 he was appointed music director for life Principal Conductor of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and 1981. In 1978 he was music director of the New York Philharmonic and remained there for 13 years. Since 1985 he was principal conductor of the Maggio Musicale in Florence. From 1998 to 2006, Mehta Music Director at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
The Vienna Philharmonic and Mehta combines over 50 years of close cooperation; in concert, they present a good range of works by Johann Strauss, Sr. and son of Edward and Josef Strauss and special works of Franz von Suppe and Hans Christian Lumbye. 5 works can be heard for the first time at a New Year's Concert.
